Artist Biography — Yana Andréea

From the earliest days of childhood, Yana Andréea understood the world through colour, texture, and composition. What began as quiet hours with sketchbooks and mosaic-like colour studies evolved into a life devoted to artistic expression — a calling she has followed with both discipline and romantic curiosity.

Guided first by instinct and later refined through classical training, Yana immersed herself in the tradition of academic art, studying within the atelier environment of the historic Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg — where generations of celebrated Russian artists have shaped their craft. This foundation, rooted in observation, drawing, and material understanding, continues to inform her sophisticated yet intuitive painterly language.

Working primarily in oil, acrylic, and tactile mixed media — including clay — Yana moves fluidly between impressionistic emotion and contemporary abstraction. Inspired by the colour philosophies of Kandinsky and the atmospheric poetry of modern European masters, she creates work that sits delicately between serenity and energy, restraint and freedom, structure and dream. Her palette is intentional and meditative: soft neutrals, whispering pastels, luminous tones that gently shift with light. Each piece is composed to elevate its environment — to bring peace, clarity, and emotional resonance to interior spaces. Rather than demanding attention, her paintings offer presence; they invite breathing room, contemplation, and the quiet luxury of refined living.

“I paint not to decorate walls, but to alter the feeling in a room,” she shares. “Colour is power, emotion, memory — and the right palette can brighten the world.”

Since 2020, Yana has released original works and private commissions for collectors who value thoughtful design, emotional depth, and authentic artistic vision. Each artwork is created with the belief that homes are sanctuaries — places where beauty should support wellbeing, elevate atmosphere, and speak to the soul. Her studio practice remains deeply personal and evolving, yet grounded in timeless aesthetics: elegance, balance, and harmony. Yana continues to explore materiality and mood, building a body of work defined not by trend, but by enduring quiet sophistication.

THE ALCHEMY OF OIL

For me, oil paint is not merely a medium—it is a living, breathing substance with its own inner chemistry, memory, and vibration. Every pigment carries a geological biography: cobalt born from meteorite-rich ores, ultramarine ground from ancient lapis lazuli, cadmiums forged through fire and metal. When suspended in linseed oil—a substance pressed from seeds that once held sunlight—the paint becomes a microcosm of the natural world. It oxidizes, transforms, and cures slowly, revealing layers of depth that no synthetic polymer can replicate. Oil is the only medium that ages like a living organism: it darkens, expands, contracts, and matures, its surface responding to temperature, humidity, and time.

I work with it as both a painter and an alchemist. Each pigment has a subtle metaphysical signature—cobalt opens the intuitive field, ultramarine calms the emotional body, cadmium red activates grounding energy, viridian clears the space. These aren’t metaphors; the energetic presence of minerals is measurable in their light absorption and refractive index. When blended in specific ratios, they create color harmonies that feel like chords—visual frequencies that resonate with the viewer.

My paintings are built slowly, in breathing layers—each one absorbing air, time, and atmosphere. The final surface is not simply painted—it is born, an evolving presence that continues to change long after it leaves my studio.
